Another ZR2 rear axle thread...

Post by Blacknoma »

Hey guys,
I know that a ZR2 axle is a direct bolt-up with the exception of not using the truck's pan-hard bar unless you build your own frame mount... and all that stuff...
But I want to know yall's opinions on my situation.
I have a 03 ZR5 with 138,000 miles and a bad rear bearing... possibly more, haven't gotten to even drive the truck or see it in person yet.
I have a 00 ZR2 with over 240,000 miles on her that I have wheeled pretty good. It has been sitting in a pasture for the past 4 years. Drove it last summer and played in the mud a little and it performed great, like always. I will be SAS-ing the ZR2 and it already has the Bravada shaft.

I want the extra width from the ZR2 axle but have seen a couple of G80's grenade after a while. I plan on cleaning up the diff real good and inspecting for metal shavings/wear and tear. Think I should throw the ZR2 axle under the ZR5? Or just replace the bearing, scrap the ZR2 axle, and go from there?

ZR-2 axles are so difficult to find, even if you had to rebuild it I wouldn't scrap it. I have been trying to find one for over a year now and finally got one only because of a project that got scrapped.

Even if mine experiences any problems ill do what I can to keep it around.
